Donations needed for RLC Weekender Backpack Ministry

Donations Needed: Weekender Backpack Ministry

The Resurrection Weekender Backpack Ministry needs your donations to support the largest number of children served in this ministry’s history. Last school year (2020-21), 273 children participated each week in this weekly food supplement program. During the first semester of this school year (2021-22), 326 children participated, and the current semester has 322 children participating. This increase in need, combined with higher food costs, has put a strain on our ministry’s budget.

Resurrection became an agency partner with Gleaner’s Food Bank in December 2021. This helped reduce food expenses by about $300 per month by filling needs such as protein bars and microwave oatmeal packs. However, the food bank does not stock many single serve food options, so while there is cost savings, it hasn’t been the savings hoped for.

Please consider supporting the Weekender Backpack Ministry in one of the following ways:

  • Donate 16 oz. jars of creamy peanut butter to provide extra nutrition over spring break. Place on the Weekender shelves in the Resurrection Breadbox by Sunday, March 13.
  • Sponsor a food item for a week’s distribution. The cost could range from $40-$175.
  • Donate Sam’s Club/Walmart or Costco gift cards.
  • Use or donate a Thrivent Action Team to purchase food items.
  • Purchase items from Weekender’s Amazon wish list.
  • Purchase any of these items in single serve packages and place them on the Weekender shelves in the Breadbox:
    • Fruit snacks
    • Applesauce pouches or cups
    • Fruit cups
    • Microwave oatmeal pouches
    • Easy-Mac microwave pouches
    • Trail mix
    • Peanut butter crackers
    • Goldfish crackers
    • Cheez-It crackers
    • Pudding cups

Thanks for helping Resurrection meet this important need and live our core value of being Christ in our community.
