Free. Every Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
All are welcome to join us for a free community meal on Friday evenings from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The meal includes a main entree from Second Helpings, fresh salad, bread, and dessert. We also provide fresh fruit for our guests to take home.
In addition to the meal and fellowship, we have themed nights around holiday seasons. We also have Bingo on the fourth Friday of each month.
The community meal is hosted at Resurrection Lutheran Church, located at 445 E. Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46227.
The Community Meals Team has four crews that rotate, serving one Friday per month. In months with a fifth Friday, we take volunteers or sometimes RLC’s youth group will serve.
Volunteers prepare food, greet guests, serve the meal, bus tables, wash dishes, and clean the kitchen and dining area.
We are in need of 2 additional disciples who have the serve-safe certification. The requirement is to study and sit for the exam. If you pass, the certificate is good for 5 years. If you are interested, please reach out to Brad Condon. Resurrection has the book for studying and can answer any questions you have about the exam and process.
“Everyone who comes through our doors is hungry and they leave fed. Whether that is sustenance in their stomach or for their souls, or both, is a reflection of their personal need. What a divine gift it is to be able to fill that need through service of both food and a welcoming spirit.”
We continue to have Bingo on the fourth Friday of the month. In the past, a number of disciples have contributed $5 gift cards and small prizes for this event. That is a huge hit with our guests and a great way to contribute if you cannot serve regularly. If this is something you wish to do, please put the cards in Brad Condon’s mailbox or the prizes in the bingo box in the kitchen storage room.
