Live and Learn Fair

Saturday, August 5, 2018 from 1:45-4:15 p.m.

Do you like to learn new things? If so, the Live and Learn Fair on August 5th from 1:45-4:15 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church is for you! This free fair is open to all ages of our congregational families, friends, and our community who enjoy learning a variety of interests of your choice.

There will be 2 sessions that will last 60 minutes each. Each session will provide 5 topic options that you will register and attend 1 topic per session to learn a new skill or refresh an old one. Our presenters are RLC members and a few professionals sharing their gifts with RLC members and the community.

Register early with 1 person per registration to guarantee your spot in the class, as some sessions have limited spots. You will receive a reminder of the event. Your schedule will be available when you check-in for the event.

1:45 p.m.:  Check in and find your room

2 – 3 p.m.: Session 1

Cooking with Foraged Plants

Elementary age – adult

Learn how identify and prepare several of Indiana’s wild plants. Foraging will expand your taste pallet and add important nutrients to your diet (some plants are even superfoods!)

Clothing Care and Repair

10-20 people / age 8+; beginner skill level

This class is a must for anyone living on their own to learn basic sewing and ironing skills.  Learn to iron shirts & pants, make a simple sewing repair kit, hem pants and sew buttons on shirts and coats.  Bring paper and pen for notes.

Law and Order by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office

All ages

Its “an overview of the investigation and prosecution of a crime.  Explains legal concepts of a case from start to finish and dispels myths about the criminal justice system. Question and Answer based, so topics vary depending on the interest of the audience.”  Need paper and pen for notes.

Family Yoga

All ages

Enjoy fun filled yoga class for families! Experience the connection that practicing yoga can bring by exploring the benefits of yoga with your children. Together we’ll complete breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, as well as interactive yoga games and partner poses. This class is suitable for yogis of all levels – gentle postures and demonstrations will be given allowing you to assist your child, or have your child assist you! Yoga can teach you that spending time with your child is much more than just being physically present. Forensics 101

All ages

Learn fascinating facts about forensic science from our own worldly expert.  Discuss the role forensic science plays in the criminal justice system.

Zumba

Elementary age to adult; exercise clothing, tennis shoes, water

Zumba Fitness is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a party atmosphere.  Music and dance featured in the program are Latin-American, jazz, African beats, country, hip-hop and pop.  Dance is a very liberal term here, as NO dance experience or skills are needed.  Come and check it out.  Bring: Wear comfortable clothing for exercise and tennis shoes.  Bring a bottle of water and a towel.  Most importantly, a great attitude, willingness to learn and a huge smile!

Quilt Making with Sewing Machine Use and Care

10-12 people; Age 10 to adult

Come try this out for a new hobby!  You will learn steps in quilt making.  If you enjoy this, come help the quilt guild sew squares for quilt donations.  You will also learn the basics of using and caring for a sewing machine including threading the machine and bobbin, cleaning it, oiling it, changing a needle and replacing a bulb.  Skills required:  none to experienced.  Bring: notetaking materials

Fraud Prevention with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office

Bring note taking materials

Learn to protect your personal information and finances during this informative presentation.  Tips are provided to help attendees avoid identity theft and current scams, including email phishing, telemarketing scams, fake charity solicitations, home improvement fraud, and lottery and sweepstakes scams.  Specific informational pamphlets and papers will be provided.

Stress Relief: Yoga Anywhere

All ages; wear comfortable clothing

Feeling stressed?  This class will teach you moves that will alleviate tension whether you are at home, work, or out and about.  Enjoy yoga together as a family or a group.
