Bread for the World Offering of Letters on Sunday, March 1

Bread for the World: 2020 Offering of Letters

Sunday, March 1 is Bread for the World’s Offering of Letters at Resurrection.

Each year, our congregation participates in the Bread for the World annual Offering of Letters to advocate with our Congressional leaders by urging progress in ending hunger through increased funding for global nutrition.

This year’s focus, Better Nutrition, Better Tomorrow, asks Congress to pass legislation that provides nutrition for vulnerable people in the United States and globally. Our faith calls us to stand alongside women, children, and all vulnerable people around the world. This advocacy to end hunger starts with us in our local church and community. When our congregation joins with all people of faith through the Offering of Letters, our collective action makes a bigger impact with our elected officials.

On Sunday, March 1, come write with us in the church narthex. All necessary materials will be provided. Together, our letters urge Congress to pass legislation that provides for increased funding for the Summer EBT program. This program provides families with increased access to food through the SNAP/TANF program during the summer months. In the United States, only one in six low-income children have access to summer feeding programs. This is a critically important issue impacting children not only in Perry Township but throughout the nation.

Writing your own letter is most impactful with our elected leaders, but adding a personal statement to the preprinted letters also helps. These personal reflections show elected leaders an extra level of commitment on behalf of the writer. If a personal story is included, the letter will be set aside for the Senator or Representative to personally read. Make plans now to come and write with us on Sunday, March 1.

New for 2020

Please note: Due to the rapidly developing situation with COVID-19, letter writing will no longer be available on Wednesdays during Lent.
