Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana

The mission of Gleaners Food Bank is simple and direct: To lead the fight against hunger. They do this by distributing food to hungry Hoosiers through a network of over 250 partner agencies in 21 counties, including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. During this COVID-19 crisis, Gleaners is also partnering with Indianapolis Public Schools to provide additional support for all IPS students and families. IPS buses will pick up and deliver meal packages to 25 locations throughout the city.

Second Helpings

For more than 20 years, Second Helpings has operated a three-part approach to addressing hunger and poverty in Central Indiana. Each day, Second Helpings volunteers and staff rescue prepared and perishable food from wholesalers, retailers and restaurants – preventing unnecessary waste. That rescued food is used to create more than 4,000 hot, nutritious meals each day that are distributed to more than 90 social service agencies that feed Hoosiers in need. Second Helpings uses RLC Breadbox donations to create the main dish for Resurrection’s Community meal each Friday, which is served curbside in individual packaging during this time.

Pack Away Hunger provides these meals locally through Midwest and Gleaners food banks as well as for the RLC Weekender bags for our Perry Township students. In response to COVID-19, this week alone Pack Away Hunger has delivered more than 100,000 meals to local organizations.
