Students returned to in-person learning in January, so after getting seven weeks worth of supplemental food to students before they went virtual in November, the Weekender team is now back to packing bags of food for students each week.
Resurrection is hosting our third Pack Away Hunger packing event in Resurrection Hall on Saturday, Jan. 23, 10 – 11:30 a.m. Packing is setup with ample distancing between workstations, and all volunteers must wear a mask, hairnet, and gloves. There are 16 volunteer spots available, and sign-up by Thursday, Jan. 21.
A team of people gathered Wednesday, Nov. 11 to pack 1,900+ bags to distribute over seven weeks to students in three local schools. The team worked hard to get all of the bags to the students before they left school, and are proud kids also received a goodie bag with fun stuff, extra food, and a large jar of peanut butter.
Second Helpings, a long-time partner of Resurrection and RLC’s Friday Community Meals, is looking for volunteers and pasta donations. Learn how you can become a volunteer and how you can donate pasta during November.
RLC is hosting a Pack Away Hunger packing event in Resurrection Hall on Sunday, Nov. 8, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sign-up by Friday, Nov. 6 to help Pack Away Hunger and RLC’s Weekender Backpack Ministry pack Nutri-Plenty meals. There are 16 total volunteer spots available, open to any age.
The next congregation-wide packing event is Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in Resurrection Hall. Our goal is to pack 1,800 bags to get kids through Christmas break! Help the team cover longer holiday breaks by purchasing items from the team’s Amazon wishlist.
After Resurrection’s Weekender food ministry was abruptly put on hold due to COVID-19, we were able to supplement food supplies by packing and delivering the remaining Weekender food inventory to be given to families in need on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1.

Monday, April 20 at Lucas Oil Stadium – Midwest Food Bank, in partnership with the Salvation Army and National Guard, has an immediate need for volunteers (age 14+) to pack 5,000 family meal boxes. Sign up for either a morning shift (8 a.m. – noon) or afternoon shift (1-5 p.m.).
Due to COVID-19, RLC’s Food Pantry ministry is not currently collecting donations. We encourage you to support the work of our local hunger partners, dedicated to addressing hunger needs throughout Indianapolis.
