RLC’s Community Meals Turns 5!
Resurrection’s Friday evening free Community Meals ministry will celebrate five years of continuous service on Friday, Oct. 4! You are invited to join us to recognize this special occasion with our volunteers and guests. Come enjoy plenty of food and a special cake to recognize the occasion! Meal service will be from 5:30 – 7 p.m. and you can join anytime during that time.
About Community Meals
We have regularly served between 40-70 people weekly with increasing numbers each year. On our very first night, we served 15 people, so what fantastic growth over five years! We serve teenagers to retirees, homeless individuals to young families, veterans, single mothers and lots of people in between. Our guests might press your conceptions of what food insecurity looks like. Some come every week, and we know them and their stories very well. Some only come once but leave with a smile and always comment on the warm, welcoming and unique nature of our meal. We are consistently told how different our Community Meals are because Resurrection people are so open and inviting, and so our ministry goes way beyond food.
Serve with Community Meals
As part of each year, we ask our regular volunteers to prayerfully consider their commitment for the upcoming year and renew. We also invite new volunteers to join our mission. MOST roles do not require any special training and most volunteers serve once a month:
- Communications & advertising to increase awareness in the community
- Support of a potential relationship with Midwest Food Bank for fresh produce
- Serve-Safe certified kitchen lead(s) willing to serve as regular monthly volunteer or substitute
- Ministry leads willing to be regular meal guests to dine and enjoy fellowship with our guests
- 5th Friday volunteers (quarterly service opportunity)
We always welcome you to drop in any time and just sit and enjoy fellowship, community and a meal with our guests. If you are interested in serving with Community Meals, watch for more details in the September Sunday bulletin announcements. If you have questions or are interested, feel free to join us on Friday evening for a meal or reach out to Brad Condon.
